BeatsGuru

Sampling is the act of taking a portion, or sample, of one recording and reusing it as segment in another piece of music. For 30 years sampling has become a popular technique used to create music. Creators should be able to sample anything and everything, but most importantly they should know where these samples are from. BeatsGuru will alter the power and process of sampling.

BeatsGuru is a mobile application that allows users to explore the DNA of a song with a single tap. Despite the fact that we have both the technology of sound-base search engines like Shazam or Soundhound, and many other online music sample databases, no one has ever combined the two together to explore a new possibility of discovering music.

Team True North

Wheelhouse

The Vancouver Maritime Museum (VMM) presented Team True North and The CDM with the challenge to create a digital artifact for their upcoming exhibition. The main problem to solve was making the exhibit interactive and user friendly to the museums wide audience ranging from 8 to 80 year olds. Finally, it had to tell the story of the museum’s centrepiece, their historic ship; The St. Roch.

The Wheelhouse Experience, an interactive recreation of navigating through the arctic, would be the main delivery for the VMM, it would serve as an interactive, built-to-scale replica of the Wheelhouse on the actual ship, allowing patrons to feel, hear and experience navigating The St Roch . To ensure timely delivery, the project would be created with a mixture of CGI and live photography.

The team's second delivery would be a Touchscreen Experience, aimed at museum users who were physically unable to board the St. Roch and filled with historical and logistical facts about the treacherous journey.
